Fire

In Fire, you control two rescuers with a stretcher, tasked with catching people jumping from a burning building and safely carrying them to the ambulance. The gameplay is simple but tense – with every rescued victim the speed increases, and mistakes come at a high cost.

The original version was released as part of Nintendo’s Game & Watch series and quickly became one of the most recognizable handheld games of the 1980s.

The simple yet ingenious mechanics of Fire inspired many later titles for handheld consoles, computers, and even mobile devices. Over time, the Game & Watch series turned into a cult collectible, and Fire remained among the most iconic entries thanks to its distinctive design and accessible gameplay.

In some later Game & Watch reissues, the game was “reimagined” with improved graphics and new character variations, but its core principle has always stayed the same – simple controls, fast-paced action, and ever-increasing difficulty.

The ORIC Port

This version has been specially adapted for the ORIC while preserving the spirit of the original:

- Graphics: clean pixel style with the characteristic ORIC palette.

- Gameplay: the same escalating pace and challenge as in the Game & Watch version.

- Sound: minimalist effects, true to the 8-bit era.

Fire is a symbol of simple yet brilliant design – proof that great ideas withstand the test of time. Bringing it to the ORIC is an attempt to merge two classics from the early years of gaming: handheld electronic games and 8-bit home computers.
