In 2014, independent developer Gabriele Cirulli released 2048, a minimalist number puzzle that quickly became a global sensation. Inspired by earlier sliding-tile games, 2048 stood out with its clean design, simple rules, and surprisingly deep strategy. Gameplay
The player moves numbered tiles on a 4×4 grid using four directions. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one with double the value.
Each move adds a new tile to the grid.
If the grid fills up → no more moves are possible.
The goal → create the tile with value 2048.
This elegant mechanic makes 2048 a perfect example of a game that is easy to understand but difficult to master, rewarding planning and foresight.
