Neutron Star is a strategic board puzzle inspired by the classic game Neutron (1977/78). It blends simple movement rules with deep tactical gameplay, creating a battle of minds where every move can decide the fate of the board.
Designed for the ORIC platform, this version preserves the elegance of the original while adding a dramatic sci-fi theme that transforms an abstract game into a cosmic struggle.
The game is played on a 5×5 board with:
Both players must move the Neutron every turn. The objective is to:
→ Bring the Neutron to your own starting row
→ Or block your opponent so they have no legal moves
All pieces move in straight lines and only stop when they hit another piece or the edge of the board. Diagonal movement is supported, making positioning and blocking even more strategic.
It sounds simple → but every move changes the entire balance of the game.
Think ahead → trap your opponent → control the Neutron.
NEUTRON STAR: The Last Beacon
In the endless darkness of space, a dying star holds the key to survival. The Neutron Star, known as The Last Beacon, radiates inexhaustible energy — the only force capable of saving a dying Earth.
Humanity arrives first with its fleet. Your Starfall ships form a defensive network around the dense stellar core (the Neutron). Your goal is to pull The Last Beacon to the life-saving Genesis Array.
But an ancient alien race emerges from the void. Their sinister Harvester ships descend, seeking to drag the star into their Cosmic Maw — a wormhole that will erase its power forever.
Every move matters. The fate of humanity is balanced on the edge of this dead, yet life-giving star.
This ORIC version of Neutron Star keeps the original game’s rules intact while adapting the visuals, speed, and controls to match the limitations of 8-bit hardware.
The board is clean and readable, animations are smooth, and the interface is optimized for both keyboard and joystick play.
