Othello is a timeless strategy board game where two players compete to control the majority of the board by strategically placing and flipping discs. With simple rules but deep tactical complexity, it remains one of the most engaging abstract strategy games for retro and 8-bit enthusiasts alike.
The game is played on an 8×8 grid. Two players take turns placing their discs on the board.
A move is valid if it traps one or more opponent discs between the newly placed disc and another disc of the same color.
Trapped discs are flipped → changing them to the current player's color.
Each move must capture at least one opponent disc → otherwise it is not allowed.
When no more valid moves remain → the player with the most discs on the board wins.
Othello encourages forward thinking, positional awareness, and long-term planning, rewarding players who can anticipate their opponent’s strategy and control key areas of the board.
This version of Othello is adapted for the Oric platform, preserving the classic gameplay while optimizing visuals and performance to match the limitations of 8-bit hardware.
The game features a clear board layout, distinct disc colors, and responsive controls, ensuring smooth gameplay while maintaining the depth and strategic challenge of the original game.
